In March 2022 the AMS is launching a policy of double anonymous peer review for its journals with the goal of minimizing implicit bias. The AMS Committee that carried out this work was chaired by Professor Dave Futer representing Proceedings of the AMS. Professor Daniel Szyld, representing Mathematics of Computation, was a member of this committee as well.

Congratulations to Professors Benjamin Seibold, Daniel Szyld, Yury Grabovsky, Isaac Klapper, and Gillian Queisser for the success of their collaborative effort at the graduate level. Math 8107, Mathematical Modeling, offers a dynamic learning environment for mathematics, science, and engineering graduate students at Temple University.
Professors Daniel Szyld and Atilla Yilmaz receive new Simons Foundation Collaboration Grants for their respective projects “Randomized analysis of asynchronous iterations” and “Stochastic homogenization of Hamilton-Jacobi equations”.
These grants provide five years of travel support for the PIs along with separate funds to enhance the research atmosphere of the department. Congratulations both!
The Department of Mathematics is proud to welcome Kiera Kean as an NSF Postdoctoral Fellow starting Fall 2022 under the mentorship of Prof. Benjamin Seibold. Dr. Kean received her PhD from the University of Pittsburgh and works on novel computational methods for fluid dynamics and turbulence.
Professor Gillian Queisser and collaborators have been awarded the grant “CRCNS Research Proposal: Collaborative Research: US-German Collaboration toward a biophysically principled network model of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)”.
The US side of this project is a dual-PI award by NIH (National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering) together with Dr. A. Opitz of University of Minnesota and comes with over $1.5m in funding for 4 years.
A truly major achievement - congratulations Irina.
Professor Benni Seilbold, as one of the principal investigators in CIRCLES, a consortium of universities, government and automakers aiming to pair existing cruise control technology with A.I. and auto data connections to reduce the instabilities in traffic flow, has had his work featured in Fortune Magazine.
