Title: The boson-fermion correspondence
Abstract: The BFC embeds an algebra of bosonic creation and annihilation operators in an extended algebra of fermions and vice-versa. This mapping has amazing applications! It allows one to see that the KP hierarchy (a basic integrable system describing the propagation of water waves) is the set of Plucker relations defining an infinite dimensional grassmanian. The BFC gives an explicit formula for the character table of symmetric groups. Also it reveals the structure of Schur processes (a discrete analogue of random matrix models).
