Prizes
The SIAM Activity Group on Linear Algebra sponsors two prizes: the SIAM
Activity Group on Linear Algebra Prize and the SIAM Activity
Group on Linear Algebra Poster Competition
SIAM
Activity Group on Linear Algebra Prize
Established in 1987, the
SIAM
Activity Group on Linear Algebra Prize (opens in new window) is awarded to the author(s) of the most outstanding paper, as
determined by the prize committee, on a topic in applicable linear
algebra published in English in a peer-reviewed journal.
2012
The SIAG/LA will present the award at the SIAM Conference on Applied Linear Algebra, to be held in Valencia, Spain, June 18-22, 2012.
Eligibility
Candidate papers must be published in English in a peer-reviewed journal
bearing a publication date between January 1, 2009 and December 31,
2011. The papers must contain significant research contributions to the
field of linear algebra, as commonly defined in the mathematical
literature, with direct or potential applications.
Description of the Award
The award consists of a plaque and a certificate containing the
citation. The awardee (in the case of multiple authors, at least one of
the awardees) is expected to attend the award ceremony and to present
the paper at the meeting.

- Dianne O'Leary, University of Maryland;
- Beresford Parlett, University of California at Berkeley.
2009
The Prize was awarded to
Zlatko Drmač and Krešimir Veselić for their paper
"New Fast and Accurate Jacobi SVD Algorithm, Parts I-II",
SIAM Journal on Matrix Analysis and Applications,
29 (4), pp. 1322-1342 and 1343-1362 (2008).
2006
The Prize was awarded to Inderjit Dhillon and Beresford Parlett for
their paper "Orthogonal Eigenvectors and Relative Gaps",
SIAM. Journal on Matrix Analysis & Applications 25, 858 (2003).
2003
The Prize was awarded to Karen Braman, Ralph Byers and Roy Mathias
for their paper "The Multishift QR Algorithm. Part II: Aggressive Early
Deflation", SIAM J. Matrix Anal. Appl., vol. 23, no. 4, pp 948-973
(2002).
Information about earlier recipients of the Prize is not currently available.
